TECHNICALDESCRIPTION

Advanced Hybrid Electrochemical Effluent Treatment System

RT ECO™ - Palm Oil Mill Effluent treatment system is a compact Hybrid electrochemical treatment system which removes BOD, COD, TSS, Coli form, Odour, Phosphate, Nitrate, Heavy metals, Color and Organic contaminants from the POME on an once through Advanced Hybrid Electrochemical Process and renders the treated water for reuse or can be discharged to common effluent reception facility/discharge to other water bodies as per discharge water standards.

There are four main stages of treatment in a typical RTECO - Palm Oil Mill Effluent treatment plant,
The Hybrid process phase can be summarized as follows

  • Pretreatment Section
  • Electro-coagulation Section
  • Electro-Oxidation Section
  • Post treatment section

Pre Treatment Section

It´s objective is for physical separation of large sized insoluble particles. Physical separation by a suitable method is adapted to remove the solids metals and others.

RT ECO™ System is generally designed to accept liquids ranging upto 300 microns.

Electro-Coagulation Section

NURAICELL - Electrocoagulation (EC) reactor is a proprietary design developed based on years on field experience and 40 years of electrochemical system offerings for diverse applications and they of made up of an electrolytic cell with anode and cathode Assembled suitably to provide the desired efficiency of treatment. When connected to an external DC power source, the anode material will electrochemically induce various IONS which are used to achieve the desired coagulation.

An EC system essentially consists of pairs of conductive metal plates in parallel, which act as monopolar / bipolar electrodes. It further more requires a direct current power source. The conductive metal plates are commonly known as "sacrificial electrodes." The sacrificial anode lowers the dissolution potential of the anode and minimizes the passivation of the cathode.

During electrolysis, the positive side undergoes anodic reactions, while on the negative side, cathodic reactions are encountered. Suitable Consumable metal plates which are selected based on application and service requirements are usually used as sacrificial electrodes to continuously produce ions using the conductivity of the Palm Oil Mill Effluent. The released ions neutralize the charges of the particles and thereby initiate coagulation. Ions in the reactor remove undesirable contaminants by causing the colloidal materials to coalescence, which can then be removed by flotation.

In addition, as water containing colloidal particulates, oils, or other contaminants move through the applied electric field, there may be ionization, electrolysis, hydrolysis, and free-radical formation which can alter the physical and chemical properties of water and contaminants. As a result, the reactive and excited state causes contaminants to be released from the water and destroyed or made less soluble. Aqua Jaya Sumber Electro-Coagulation The electric charge in the reactor helps holding the aggregates in the solution thus enabling easy separation by filtration or other physical separation methods effectively.

Electro-oxidation Section

ELECTROGEN - Electro-Oxidation (EO) refers to electrochemical processes involving electron transfer to or from a molecule or ion changing its oxidation state. This reaction can occur through the application of an external voltage. Oxidation describes the change of oxidation state that takes place in the atoms, ions or molecules involved in an electrochemical reaction.

Electrochemical EO reactions are better understood using the ion- electron method where H+ , OH- ion, H2O and electrons (to compensate the oxidation changes) are added to cells half-reactions for oxidation and reduction. Thus efficiently treating the effluent water and making it Devoid of every microbial contaminant, oxidizing heavy metals and others.

Our Electrolyser/cell uses ATMA (Activated Titanium Metal Anodes) as heart of the system and selecting a suitable coating for different process forms the crucial part of Design. The effective utilization of EO process in treatment helps achieve very high level of treatment efficiency. Aqua Jaya Sumber Electro-Oxidation
EO process can be tweaked to achieve most output standards by just playing with current densities and type of anode coating. Achieving even 99.9% treatment efficiency is possible if designed suitably for the said effluent characteristics.

Electro-Oxidation process in RT ECO™ system is a very important step which ensures complete reduction of balance COD, TKN, N and P making it very simple for the next tertiary treatment processes.

Post treatment Section

The Purpose of the post treatment section is to provide a final treatment stage to raise the water quality to the desired level before it is reused, recycled or discharged to the environment at economical cost with assured results.

Though RT ECO™ system produces near reusable water directly at its outlet, depending on the Palm Oil Mill Effluent characteristics post treatment of water using diverse methods such as MGF, ACF, UF, NF or RO are incorporated to meet the final treated water applications.

Now in this whole process of treatment the influential contaminants are either coagulated or oxidized and hence are conveniently separated by various physical separation methods and these solids thus separated are then managed further by a DeWatering system or a filter press to achieve the desired low moisture solids.

Interestingly the liquids from these solid separation process are recommended to be resent to the collection tank to be part of the future effluents as they carry some colloidal residues which help in the pretreatment of the fresh incoming effluents.
